CM Punk made his big return to pro wrestling last year at AEW Rampage: The First Dance, and he instantly became one of their top stars. He competed against numerous top talent since then, especially against Adam Page. Now he’s booked to take on Jon Moxley, but Tony Khan didn’t give a lot of room to hype the match.

As seen on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, CM Punk kicked off the show with a promo. After he was done with his controversial bit on Adam Page, Punk turned his attention towards Jon Moxley and verbally eviscerated him.

In the end, AEW officially announced that Punk and Moxley will face off in an AEW World Title unification match next week on Dynamite instead of All Out. While speaking during the latest “After 83 Weeks” Q&A broadcast, Eric Bischoff compared AEW running Punk vs Moxley on free TV to Goldberg vs Hulk Hogan on WCW Nitro.

“I’m for it, for the same reason I was crucified when I made the decision to put Goldberg and Hogan on free TV.

I think he should do it for the same reason that I did, which was I was a television company. Yes, PPV was an important part of the bottom line, but guess what was more important to Turner Broadcasting than my individual bottom line? Television ratings.

Discovery is making decisions about where they are going in 2024,” Bischoff continued. “You’ve got to serve your client. Discovery is Tony Khan’s client and customer, keep them happy, first and foremost. I’m glad he made the decision to do it that way.”

We will have to wait and see whether CM Punk will be able to defeat Jon Moxley next week on AEW Dynamite. Fans are certainly divided when it comes to the star they want to see win.
