AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling will team up to present the highly anticipated Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26. NJPW had Zack Sabre Jr. call out Bryan Danielson after his match at the Dominion event. Fans have been wondering if that match will happen given The American Dragon’s uncertain injury status.

Initial reports said that Bryan Danielson would miss one to two weeks. Thus far, he has not returned to AEW television. A lot will depend on what happens this week.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed Bryan Danielson’s injury status. As of Wednesday, Danielson was not cleared. The fact that Zack Sabre Jr. called him out at the recent NJPW Dominion event means that AEW is likely still hoping the match can happen at Forbidden Door.

“They didn’t announce the match, but they certainly built it up. I can tell you that he was not cleared on Wednesday of last week, but they pushed very hard…

Here’s the deal. He’s either going to be on the show this coming Wednesday, or I would go and say that it’s unlikely that they’ll have the match, although he has until, obviously, the 26th to get cleared. When I watched the show on Friday, my impression was that that match is on the card because you would not be teasing that if you did not think it was, and I think if you thought, with all the disappointments and things like that, that it wasn’t going to be there, I would not have teased it.

I’ve asked and I don’t really get like a yes or a no. I don’t know to take that as a yes or to take that as a ‘We’re waiting,’ but Wednesday night we’re going to find out. Obviously, on Wednesday when they taped, they had to be more than 50%, or why would you even waste your time doing it? I guess you could make the argument that if he’s not cleared, we could always do the match on TV in a week or two or whatever and still do the match that we planned, but, you know, I do think that that match is happening, and it’s happening very soon, and obviously, Forbidden Door would be where it would happen if he is okay by that day.”

AEW fans will have to tune in to this week’s episode of Dynamite to see if Bryan Danielson makes his return. With Kenny Omega still dealing with injuries and Kazuchika Okada’s status uncertain, both promotions will need to provide as much star power as possible for the show. If Bryan Danielson can’t compete, it would be a major blow to what has been billed as a major international event.
