CM Punk defeated Adam Page at AEW Double Or Nothing to become the new AEW World Champion. Fans were simply elated to see the Second City Saint as the champion, but that did not last long as an interim champion must now be determined. Punk is also unlikely to be out of action for a long time.

Punk’s happiness did not last long as he revealed that he is injured and will require surgery on this week’s episode of AEW Rampage. A new system to crown the interim AEW World Champion was made official as well.

While speaking on the Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about CM Punk’s injury and return timetable. Meltzer stated that Punk is unlikely to be out of action for a long time.

It looks like it’s maybe his foot that’s not clear, he’ll be out of action but not for a long time. Not like it’s going to be 9 months or anything like that, not even 6 months either.

The interim AEW World Champion will be crowned at the Forbidden Door event, as Jon Moxley will take on the winner of the Battle Royal on Dynamite. We’ll have to see who will be the interim champion. It also remains to be seen when exactly CM Punk will return, but it’s not looking like he will be out of action for an incredibly long time.
