CM Punk debuted in AEW back in August of last year, in a move that shocked the pro wrestling world. Since then, Punk has already become a huge part of AEW programming. However, CM Punk might have some backstage heat in AEW.

Punk had a lot of supporters in WWE but there were also those who believed he was not easy to work with. While he certainly has a great time in AEW, perhaps not everyone is a fan of how he has been conducting his work in the company.

During this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Adam Page and CM Punk had an intense promo battle. Towards the end of the segment, Page talked about defending AEW from Punk.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the segment. Page’s promo implied that there might be some heat on Punk backstage. Meltzer said the promo segment reminded him of Bret Hart-Shawn Michaels in 1997, as both of them heat legitimate heat back then,

This was to me almost like and I’m not saying it was as good as this, but to me, it reminded me of when Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels in 1997 did a face-to-face, it was probably designed like this, ‘the more you know, the more it meant.’ When Bret and Shawn did that stuff, I knew everything was going on…backstage. I remember watching this going like, ‘holy sh**.’ It’s not like they’re shooting, but there’s a level of reality to this that the people watching on television do not know. This had the same vibe to it. – Meltzer

I mean I didn’t write it down, but I mean he essentially said that this CM Punk that’s a nice guy out here on television and a new CM Punk allegedly, he’s a piece of sh** backstage. That’s essentially what he said…. Page also made the comment that he wasn’t going to beat your a** this weekend for myself or this championship, but I’m going to beat your a** for this locker room. – Alvarez

Regardless of backstage heat or not, CM Punk has helped AEW’s revenue. It remains to be seen whether Punk beats Adam Page for the AEW World Championship at Double Or Nothing on May 29th. Odds are, that might not be happening.
