John Cena is a 16-time World Champion and carried the company on his back throughout the PG era. Since 2017, Cena stopped being an active competitor as he chose to focus on his Hollywood career. Austin Theory is more than determined to have a match against Cena for his WWE United States Title.
Austin Theory has seen a lot of growth over the course of a year. This is largely due to him being under the tutelage of Vince McMahon. Theory has also made it clear on numerous occasions he thought of Cena as an idol.
In fact, John Cena is forever grateful to fans like Austin Theory. While speaking on After The Bell with Corey Graves, Austin Theory made it clear that his end goal is to defend his WWE United States Title against the Leader Of Cenation.
“It’s just wild. That’s who got me into WWE. At first, I wasn’t crazy about sports entertainment. But I think I was just attached to that character, John Cena, and how it motivated me.
Now to see that come to light and interact with me where I’m at in my career, it’s just amazing, especially what he did say on Twitter. I just thought that it was very interesting, but at the same time very motivating. So I’m very grateful for that.
You know, it’s WWE. We never know what could happen. I feel like we do have a feeling what could happen pretty soon though.
I ultimately want to defend the United States Championship against John Cena.”
John Cena had one of the best runs as the United States Champion back in 2015. Fans would certainly be interested in seeing Cena duke it out with Theory in the future. We’ll have to see if it ends up happening or not.
