Joey Janela was one of AEW’s earliest talent pick-ups. “The Bad Boy” saw his use in the company slowly trickle down to nothing over time. Despite a well-received feud with Sonny Kiss on AEW’s YouTube shows, Janela never got the exposure to become a top star.

Joey Janela is now officially free agent. Several AEW contracts are set to expire in the coming weeks, so expect some departures. Joey Janela is one of the names who has officially left the company because his contract expires today, May 1st.

Janela’s departure is not surprising given that he hasn’t appeared on television in months. Janela claimed that AEW had gone “radio silent” with him for months and that he was not expecting to sign a new contract. Janela told Denise Salcedo he was not interested in signing.

My contract is up on May 1, and I’m going to have to say no now. I’m not interested in resigning with AEW. I just wish there was less radio silence on their end with me. I consider Tony a friend. I hung out with Tony a lot in the beginning days of AEW. I just wish they would talk to me. I know it’s come to an end, but I appreciate them. I appreciate the experience I had and I’m going to take everything I learned there and bring it with me for the rest of my career.

PWInsider later reported that Janela was under fire for injuring Eddie Kingston because it disrupted week’s worth of TV plans. PWI also stated that there is a widespread belief within the company that several talents were harmed while working with Janela. Janela stated that he and Kingston have no remorse for that “mistake” and that he never intended to harm Hangman Adam Page.
