Dexter Lumis made a name for himself in Triple H’s NXT. The 38-year-old was involved in some of the most entertaining segments in the black and gold brand’s history. Unfortunately, WWE had no plans for Lumis going forward and released him from his contract Friday, April 29th.

Lumis took to Twitter to reveal that he is back as Samuel Shaw, the name he used prior to signing with WWE. He posted a video of him watching a portrait of Vince McMahon sitting on a bench press machine. The clip ends with Lumis facing the camera to do his signature thumbs up.

On NXT 2.0, Lumis was the husband of Indi Hartwell. The duo were involved in a friendly yet competitive rivalry with Persia Pirotta and Duke Hudson. Pirotta was also released from her NXT contract Friday. For his final NXT 2.0 match, Lumis teamed up with Hudson against NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly.

Lumis has to wait until 30 days before he could sign up with another promotion. The Dexter Lumis character was tons of fun and made Lumis a regular on NXT and NXT 2.0. We’ll have to wait and see what’s next for him.
