WWE has renamed quite a few members of the talent roster as of late; even some of the established stars have received a name change. A recent report could help us shed light on the subject as Vince McMahon has a new edict.

Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that Vince McMahon is concerned, seemingly because he doesn’t want wrestlers using their real names when they join the rival promotion.

“If Austin Theory leaves WWE to go to AEW he couldn’t be Austin Theory, but he could be Austin, so we have to take away everything from them that is real that they could therefore use elsewhere.”

Fans might have noticed a pattern in the name changes. For Instance, Raquel Gonzalez has become Raquel Rodriguez, and Austin Theory has become just Theory. In both cases, their real names were ditched or replaced. Some, like Riddle and Randy Orton, likely won’t fall victim to this new rule.

“Obviously, if you’re Matt Riddle you won’t have to change your name — well, we could turn on TV tonight and he has a different name, but no real names, not even a real first name or whatever … it doesn’t matter. It’s Vince.”

Another instance is Raul Mendoza, who is now referred as “Cruz Del Toro,” because his real first name was indeed Raul. Many fans theorized that Theory’s first name was dropped due to Steve Austin but that was not the case. It’s because his real name is Austin White.

Fans can expect more name changes in the near future as the company won’t stop until it ditches all the existing real first or last names in use. Let us know in the comments below what do you think of this.
