Cody Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38, and he’s already getting a major focus. That being said, he’s still Cody and always working.

We previously covered that Cody Rhodes appeared on WWE The Bump today where he said that his promo on RAW this week was unscripted. That promo might have been from the heart, but it was still pre-approved.

”I was just able to go out and speak in an unscripted, raw fashion and tell a story about my dad that not everybody knows,” The American Nightmare said. “I actually have the title I spoke about but not everybody knows that story. That was my original impetus and whole origin story on wanting to be a wrestler. So, to be able to tell the world that was very special.”

Ringside News asked around about Cody Rhodes’ promo on RAW this week. A member of the RAW writing team confirmed to us that his promo was 100% scripted.

We were told that, “Cody’s promo was scripted and approved by Vince on Friday.” Cody had a nice long promo to start off RAW this week, but it was scripted down to the pause that he took before asking, “or did it?” Vince McMahon also made notes to the script about the handshake with Seth Rollins and who would extend their hand first.

Cody Rhodes is off to a good start with this run in WWE, but he’s still doing it in Vince McMahon’s company. That change of employer from Tony Khan to Mr. McMahon comes with scripted promos.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
