Powerhouse Hobbs is one of AEW’s most promising young stars. Hobbs has already had the chance to wrestle in front of 20,000 people against CM Punk in the Second City Saint’s first TV match after his return. The hulking Team Taz member combines power and agility to make himself an imposing figure for any opponent.

Things weren’t always looking up for Hobbs. Before he came to AEW, the big man was working for Facebook in the maintenance department. Prospects with WWE didn’t look good. It was a dark time, but Hobbs has come a long way since those days.

Chris Van Vliet sat down for an in-depth interview with Powerhouse Hobbs. The two talked about a variety of subjects including life, wrestling, and where Hobbs came from. It was a long journey that Hobbs is grateful for.

“So I was working at Facebook and Instagram. I was running their facilities department, so I was running about 4 different buildings. Then I got a call saying that we are going to give you a month off with pay, and I’m cool with it. I can take my son Bam Bam to school and look after my other son Julian.

I got home about 2:30, then got a call about 3:45 saying that they were going to terminate my contract. I’m like f*ck, but everything happens for a reason. I am glad that I got let go and I am living my dream.”

After being fired, Hobbs got a fateful call from QT Marshall. Powerhouse thought it was a joke at first. Fortunately, he answered that call. Powerhouse Hobbs never gave up on his dream of being a professional wrestler. That perseverance is paying off in a major way.
