AEW have a number of titles that get defended regularly. Currently, there are six active titles in the Jacksonville-based promotion: AEW World Championship, AEW Women’s Championship, TNT Championship, TBS Championship, AEW World Tag Team Championship, and FTW Championship.

The company is looking to introduce the trios championship in the near future. The plan to expand the title count will be put into place after the return of former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, who’s currently recovering from a number of injuries.

During today’s AEW Media call, company president and CEO Tony Khan talked about his plans to introduce the new title. Khan said they are waiting for Omega to return to the promotion as his involvement in six-man tag matches can bolster the division.

Former AEW Tag Team Champions the Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) had stated last year that fans would see the trios title on the Jericho Cruise, which was halted due to the pandemic, putting the company’s plans to introduce the title on hold for the time being.
