Shinsuke Nakamura defended the IC Title against Sami Zayn during the SmackDown tapings. In the end, Zayn won the match and became the IC Champion.

Zayn became #1 contender when he won the 12 Days of Christmas Gauntlet match a long time ago. This title match was postponed a few times, because Nakamura suffered a hand injury. The King of Strong Style healed up just in time to drop that title.
