Keith Lee got a major reaction from the AEW audience when he debuted on last night’s Dynamite. The company’s latest free-agent signing made huge splash as he qualified for the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match by beating Isiah Kassidy of Private Party. Keith displayed some nice agility and impressive power offense. Not everybody was sold that Lee is completely limitless.
There were a few points in the match where it appeared Keith Lee might have lost a bit of his agility. Lee still moves very impressively for a big man. That’s not to say he wasn’t without his critics.
On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said he was worried that Keith might be working at too high of a weight. A wrestler who uses agility in his move set, he opined, should be trying to lose weight. Dave thought Isiah Kassidy helped him overcome some of the perceived shortcomings.
“He has to lose some weight. That’s just the reality. I mean, he was made to look good by Isiah Kassidy, but he’s much heavier than he was even in his NXT days, let alone in his independent days. And, for a guy whose big thing is agility…
He did a couple of cool moves and everything, but he was low on the leapfrog. I mean, Kassidy made it look good. His speed wasn’t his old speed. And that’s what happens when you get older. But, that’s why when you get older, and you’re a big guy, it’s incumbent on you to be at a lower weight, not a heavier weight. So, Keith’s got to lose weight to be the old Keith.”
Keith Lee was very well-received by the AEW fans. Tony Khan has to be thrilled with the pop. Now it’s up to Keith Lee to let his in-ring work do the talking so he can quiet the skeptics.
