Tony Khan sparked a firestorm of speculation recently when he announced that AEW would be adding a huge free agent name on Wednesday’s Dynamite. Early indications point to the surprise being Keith Lee. Nothing is confirmed, and there are still some interesting names floating around.

One of those names is Jay White. The New Japan Pro Wrestling star has been dropping AEW’s name in his promos recently. Dave Meltzer talked about the possibility of White showing up in AEW on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio.

“The other name that I’ve heard a bunch… Not a bunch, but a little bit, today, is Jay White. So, I don’t know that he’s coming in or not, but that was an interesting name to hear.

[Dropping AEW’s name in every promo] gets him buzz to do it. He has been working a lot on Impact. So, whatever. There’s no reason that he can’t do both. The nature of the business today, it’s not like there’s exclusivity or anything. New Japan works with both companies, so that’s another interesting name.

The thing is that he cannot sign a contract, so if the guy coming on Wednesday is signing an exclusive AEW contract it can’t be him, but I have heard his name.”

Jay White is a familiar name to a large portion of the United States wrestling audience. Jay is a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and has held several other titles. White was also the first NJPW Grand Slam Champion. Jay would be a huge addition to AEW, but time will tell whether he is Tony Khan’s huge surprise.
