AJ Styles is one of the biggest WWE superstars. As he is looking at his future in the company with Royal Rumble coming around, he also keeps track of his contemporaries. With AEW, IMPACT Wrestling and other indies staying ahead of the curve with constant collaboration, WWE might be catching up to the trend.
Wrestling Inc. Managing Editor Nick Hausman recently spoke with WWE Superstar AJ Styles about his decision to stay with the company. When his contract was set to expire in 2019, The Phenomenal One explained why he chose to stay with the company.
It was easy. I want to be here, this is the place for me. If they let me I will retire here, I hope to work in WWE in some capacity when I retire. I enjoy what I do.
When asked what he would do after wrestling, he revealed that he would love to play a role similar to Shawn Michaels. He believes that assisting young wrestlers is the most important thing he could possibly do.
I would love to have that opportunity. I love to see people be successful, and having a hand in that to me, it would probably be the best thing I could do in my career. But, I don’t that I’ll get that opportunity, I am just saying.
After that, AJ Styles discussed his recent work with NXT. He’s recently appeared on the show to work with Grayson Waller, and he’s loved every minute of it. Styles remarked that he enjoys working with the crowd and finds it motivating.
Oh, it’s great. A bunch of hungry kids wanting to get after it, I love that. It’s inspiring because you want to do more when you’re down there, and I know the crowd is a little bit smaller, but it’s just as exciting. The smaller sometimes are the loudest. I really believe that the NXT fans are what makes NXT, the WWE Universe is what makes WWE. It’s not us, it’s them.
AJ Styles participated in the Royal Rumble match on January 29th but didn’t end up winning. We’ll have to wait and see what AJ has got in store for us. Take a look at the full interview below.
