Dean Ambrose let his WWE contract expire and he left a seven-figure deal on the table. Fans expected him to show up in AEW, but it wasn’t certain. One thing fans did know was that Ambrose was Jon Moxley once again. Seth Rollins namedropping Moxley’s current name on SmackDown drew a lot of attention last week, and that was the plan.

Ringside News asked around about Seth Rollins namedropping Jon Moxley’s name on SmackDown. We were told that line was 100% scripted and approved to be on the show.

WWE previously edited Moxley from old Ambrose footage, especially when showing clips of The Shield. They did not edit the former Lunatic Fringe from the last Royal Rumble video package they ran which highlighted Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins’ history.

Seth Rollins mentioning Moxley’s name on SmackDown caused a bit of a stir. That does not mean he will be at the Royal Rumble. In fact, no AEW talent is expected to be at this Saturday’s premium live event.

WWE obviously still hopes that Jon Moxley will return to the company. They left a door wide open for that to happen, but only time will tell if the former AEW World Champion will journey back to Vince McMahon’s company. In the meantime, at least we know that Jon Moxley isn’t on WWE’s banned words list.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
