Sami Zayn recently followed in the footsteps of his close friend Kevin Owens and re-signed with WWE. Speculation had been going around about Zayn’s future with the company. Sami’s contract expired at the end of 2021. The lack of news caused some fans to wonder what was going on.

It turned out that Sami was just more quiet about his new contract than Owens. Ringside News exclusively reported in late December that WWE creative was given the go-ahead to come up with new long-term story ideas for Sami Zayn. The writing of his new contract was written on the wall.

News didn’t break of the new deal until this week. It was actually done at the same time as Kevin Owens’ contract. Buzz around the locker room was that Zayn had signed and just hadn’t confirmed it yet. In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer described the situation.

“Zayn (Rami Sebei, 37) signed a multi-year new contract. This actually took place back the same time Owens signed and we noted that the locker room talk was that he signed. Unlike with Owens, it wasn’t confirmed by company sources past other wrestlers. But the signing coincided with when they had him start working with Lesnar and Reigns on Smackdown.”

Sami Zayn has been feuding with Jackass star Johnny Knoxville as of late. Knoxville qualified for the Royal Rumble match when he threw Zayn over the top rope. Johnny has been trolling Sami online ever since.

Zayn said that he re-signed because sticking around and having fun is the Sami Zayn way. Time will tell what his future holds in WWE. For now, he’s focused on getting revenge on Johnny Knoxville at the Royal Rumble.
