Tommaso Ciampa recently lost the NXT Championship to upstart rookie Bron Breakker at New Year’s Evil. Ciampa had held the gold since the start of the NXT 2.0 era. The torch has now been passed and it could be time for Tommaso to move on.

Pete Dunne has been another major stabilizing force as the NXT brand transitioned from what it once was to the colorful new vision set forth by WWE. Dunne may be ready for his next challenge as younger talent moving up the ranks quickly. The Bruiserweight certainly has the chops to get it done in a bigger setting.

WWE tried Ciampa and Dunne on for size as members of the main roster at last night’s SmackDown. The two veterans worked a dark match before the show. WWE frequently uses these untelevised bouts to evaluate talent for main roster call-ups.

Pete Dunne has not been used much in NXT lately. Dunne has had only one televised match since WarGames. WWE could be getting him ready to move to the big leagues.

Tommaso Ciampa dropping the title could also be a sign that WWE sees now as the time to make a move. There is not much else for the former champion to do in NXT. This could be the prelude to a call up.

The Royal Rumble is coming up soon. WWE will need to have plenty of wrestlers on hand to make sure they can fill the titular match as COVID continues to mess with the plans of every wrestling promotion. Tommaso Ciampa and Pete Dunne could be the next members of the NXT roster to debut at the Rumble.
