Eric Bischoff will always make news when he appears on any wrestling television show. He was the controversial mind behind the rise of WCW in the late 1990’s that took the promotion to the top of the wrestling world. For wrestling fans of that vintage, it will always be shocking to see Bischoff appear on WWE programming.

On this week’s Raw, Bischoff made a surprise appearance. He was named as the officiant of the wedding vow renewal ceremony of The Miz and Maryse. It was a beautiful ceremony before Edge got involved.

There were rumors going into the show that there were likely to be several changes made to the Raw script. The surprise appearances of NXT’s Grayson Waller and Eric Bischoff seemed to have been the product of that chaos. Mike Johnson of PW Insider has reported that this isn’t the case at all.

Bischoff and Waller were both locked in for their appearances on December 23rd. They weren’t there to fill up time taken up by other wrestlers who were out with COVID. The idea was to have Bischoff officiate the wedding at least as far back as last week.

Waller continued his crossover feud with AJ Styles on the show. Bischoff got fans talking. AJ’s appearance on NXT brought up the show’s rating. Everything seems to be going according to plan for WWE.

Eric Bischoff is a WWE Hall of Famer. He also tried to kill the company as head of WCW. Bischoff has been very critical of AEW recently after appearing there not too long ago. One has to wonder just how long ago this appearance was really planned.
