WWE fans are very observant individuals. When Von Wager showed up on SmackDown, fans wanted to know what the deal was. Then he never returned, but there is a reason for that.

Wagner’s SmackDown cameo was mentioned once in passing by Kyle O’Reilly on NXT 2.0 the week after they aired the angle on SmackDown. Then it was never picked back up. Ringside News exclusively reported at the time that Vince McMahon felt that Adam Pearce needed a bodyguard.

After a few Wagnerless weeks of blue brand programming, we asked around about this angle. A tenured member of the creative team confirmed to us that, “Vince decided ‘I don’t like it.'” The angle was dropped after that.

Von Wagner’s character on NXT 2.0 saw a change since then. He turned on Kyle O’Reilly and went heel. Now Wagner is on NXT 2.0 as a bad guy, still trying to find his place on the roster.

Cal Bloom has a ton of potential in WWE, and that short cameo on SmackDown likely won’t be his final appearance on the main roster. Vince McMahon just didn’t like him in a bodyguard role at this time.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
