Kenny Omega’s AAA Mega Championship reign has ended with a tweet. Dorian Joaquín Roldán Peña, GM for the promotion, announced the change this afternoon. He also named the first challenger for the now-vacant title. Omega was forced to give up the crown after announcing he was taking some time off for surgery.

In the tweet, Peña noted the reasons for the change. He also announced Vikingo as the first challenger for the championship. More news will follow shortly. The original tweet as well as the English translation are below.

“Por temas de lesión y cirugías, @KennyOmegamanX no podrá estar presente en #TriplemaniaRegia; por lo cual, a partir de este momento, el MegaCampeonato de @luchalibreaaa queda vacante, teniendo como primer retador a @vikingo_aaa; más noticias en breve.”

“Due to injury and surgery issues, @KennyOmegamanX may not be present at #TriplemaniaRegia ; Therefore, as of this moment, the Mega Championship of @luchalibreaaa remains vacant, with @vikingo_aaa as the first challenger; more news soon.”

It was reported that the title would be vacated some time soon. Now, with a simple tweet, the AAA Mega Championship is vacant. Vikingo will await word on who he’ll wrestle for the title at TripleMania Regia.

The Mega Championship is the main singles title in the Mexican AAA promotion. Kenny Omega was the longest-reigning titleholder in the history of the belt. He held the title from October 19, 2019 until November 22, 2021.
