Kazuchika Okada won the G1 Climax 31, but it wasn’t under any circumstances that he would prefer. During his final match against Kota Ibushi, the match was stopped due to injury, awarding Okada with the win.

Ibushi was injured after he climbed to the top rope and tried a phoenix splash. Okada rolled out of the way and Ibushi landed on the mat, immediately clutching his right arm. Legendary NJPW referee, Red Shoes, then got in the ring and called the match after checking on Ibushi.

It appeared that trainers were trying to pop Ibushi’s right shoulder back into place after the match. Okada’s celebration was certainly dampened due to this unexpected event.

We have no idea how the G1 Climax was supposed to end, but an injury certainly wasn’t in the booking plan. The ring ropes were also removed as trainers got Ibushi out of the ring.

Okada now has an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match at Wrestle Kingdom 16. We will have to see how bad Ibushi’s injury is, because this is very new information at this time.
