CM Punk’s AEW debut at AEW Rampage: The First Dance is considered one of the greatest moments in the company’s history and it is hard to argue why. Adding to that, his debut might even make it to Guinness World Records due to how loud that Chicago crowd was.

Punk himself absolutely loved his AEW debut and it was said that AEW had no idea what Punk was going to say in his promo during his debut on AEW Rampage. Since returning to AEW, CM Punk made it clear he came back to the pro wrestling world in order to put over the younger talents in the company but he also expressed his desire to compete in NJPW.

Before debuting in AEW, CM Punk made his return to WWE as part of WWE Backstage. He would be an occasional guest in the show and fans loved seeing him there. Unfortunately, WWE Backstage was eventually cancelled. While speaking on The Kurt Angle Show, Samoa Joe talked about CM Punk’s debut in AEW. Joe revealed that he knew CM Punk was going to return to pro wrestling the moment Punk took the job on WWE Backstage.

“If I know one thing about Punk, [it’s that] if he’s out on something, he’s out on it. You won’t see him being around it, you won’t see him looking at it, you won’t see him staring at it, it’s out of his life and the minute I saw him on the FOX set, I knew his eyes were turning back towards it.”

“I think he was just looking for the right place at the right time and he wanted to be happy with it and I think he is. From what I’ve seen, I would gather that he is, so I’m stoked for him and I’m happy to see him back.”

CM Punk recently defeated Matt Sydal in singles competition on AEW Rampage. Punk also previously mentioned how he wants to face off against Kazuchika Okada. It remains to be seen what is next in store for the Second City Saint in AEW.
