Adam Cole’s contributions to NXT during his four-year-long run cannot be understated. He helped usher in one of the brand’s best eras and fans will always appreciate him for that.

Adam Cole was done with NXT after TakeOver 36 and shortly after that, Adam Cole’s WWE contract also expired, making him free agent. On top of that, he didn’t sign another contract with WWE, so he was free to do whatever he wanted to.

Adam Cole decided to go to AEW as he made his debut at AEW All Out last month and it is a decision he was very happy to make. His theme song has also made its way to the #1 spot on the iTunes metal charts as well.

While speaking to Sports Illustrated, CM Punk talked about Adam Cole’s theme song in AEW and stated that it hits him on a different for many reasons.

“It hits me on a different level for a lot of reasons. I’m not the kind to stand in the back and wait to go out. I’m running around backstage and I’m mingling. There’s a group of people, with their faces constantly changing, always around. And just seeing the look on their faces, that hits me right in the chest. Wrestling is different. You’re not supposed to be a ‘mark’ and you’re not supposed to take pictures with someone you share a locker room with. The culture is different in AEW. I get excited when Adam Cole’s music hits. I think he can see that on my face. There is an excitement in the locker room, and then I see the fans, and it’s amazing. Every new city I go to, these people haven’t seen me in seven years. It’s like Aug. 20 all over again for me.”

It remains to be seen whether CM Punk and Adam Cole will eventually square off against each other in AEW. Till then, Punk will continue to enjoy Cole’s theme song.
