CM Punk’s AEW debut last week at AEW Rampage: The First Dance was touted as the biggest moment in the company’s history and many felt the same. CM Punk already smashed T-shirt sales records with his first batch of t-shirts.

Punk’s debut became one of the most talked-about moments in recent memory and elevated AEW to the next level. This certainly pleased Mick Foley among other people.

CM Punk also chose Darby Allin as his first opponent for his in-ring return in over seven years, which many fans are excited about. While speaking to the New York Post, CM Punk talked about facing Darby Allin and went on to explain why Allin is the perfect opponent for his in-ring return.

“I think he’s the perfect opponent. … I’m kind of approaching it like I’m quasi-new guy, but old head coming back into this thing. From an artistic storyline perspective, I can’t go after Kenny [Omega] right way. He’s the (world) champion. It wouldn’t make any sense. I never wrestled in this organization. Darby is a lot of things. He’s a fantastic talent, he’s a great personality. Within the AEW storytelling, he’s a very compelling character that the fans like. I just think he’s like the perfect foil right now.

CM Punk and Darby Allin will clash at AEW All Out on September 5th. It remains to be seen how CM Punk will fare in his in-ring return after seven long years and if he still has what it takes to compete against the best inside the squared circle.
