CM Punk’s AEW debut last week at AEW Rampage: The First Dance was touted as the biggest moment in the company’s history and it’s easy to understand why. CM Punk already smashed T-shirt sales records with his first batch of t-shirts. On top of that, even Jim Cornette considered his debut to be perfect.

Punk was in talks with AEW for almost two years as well, but the deal still closed in a hurry when the Second City Savior told them he made a decision to return. Fans and pro wrestlers alike were delighted to see him in AEW. His debut was also delayed a bit because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, FOX was upset with the fact that WWE didn’t even try to make a big offer to CM Punk in order to prevent him from going to AEW. In the end, it came down to the company deciding that getting Brock Lesnar and Becky Lynch back on WWE television was more important.

It is to be noted that FOX and CM Punk have a very good relationship, dating back to his deal with them for WWE Backstage. In fact, FOX was reportedly one of the first to congratulate Punk on the massive success in ratings that AEW Rampage did on Friday Night.
