Christian Cage won the Impact Wrestling World Title during the debut episode of AEW Rampage. That big win over Kenny Omega meant that the Belt Collector lost two titles, the Impact and TNA World Titles. Christian walked away with two belts, but he retired one of them tonight. Cage walked into Impact Wrestling’s television tapings tonight and he cut a promo about winning the tiles from Omega. Then his speech shifted to talk about retiring the TNA Title. David Penzer then took that belt from Cage and the belt is now defunct.

The company reinstated the TNA Title in February, 2020 when Moose unofficially brought it back into the fold. He carried that title until April, 2020 when he lost it to Rich Swann in a unification match. Since then, the champ has carried two belts. Christian Cage put a stop to that tonight.

Now that Cage has retired the TNA Title, Impact Wrestling can carry on and promote their current brand. It was nice to have the TNA belt back for nostalgia’s sake, but it soon got complicated to book two top championships like that on the same show.
