WWE NXT Nixed Plans For Return To Touring

WWE had to close down their touring schedule when the pandemic hit, and that included NXT. The main roster hit the road again, but NXT remains Capitol Wrestling Center exclusive show. There were plans to get NXT back on their Florida live event schedule, often called the Coconut Loop, but that hasn’t happened yet.

The company is well aware that the COVID-19 pandemic is in the middle of a tragic surge. Many people are getting sick as the Delta Variant sweeps the country. Florida was hit especially hard, and even ROH pulled their Death Before Dishonor event from Lakeland in favor of Philly.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that there was talk of NXT getting back on the road in July, but that obviously hasn’t happened yet. There is a concern that those fans at some of the Florida tour dates wouldn’t be vaccinated and that could present a big risk for another COVID-19 outbreak in the black and gold brand.

We had heard months ago a push to get everyone vaccinated with the idea that running in some of the Florida markets, where the populace leaned heavily right, they’d be running shows with fans who weren’t vaccinated and wouldn’t want to wear masks. The idea was to start in July, and here we are with no talk at all of running anything. NXT is loaded with newer names who badly need ring time in front of fans, especially many of the high-level athletes that come highly regarded. But they are not getting that ring time.

WWE obviously wants to get the NXT brand back on the road. Those tour dates provide talent with a great opportunity to perform in front of live crowds and develop their characters. Some former NXT Superstars have also praised those house shows for helping them along in big ways. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic is keeping those tours from taking place once again.
