WWE NXT included scary spot this week as Mercedes Martinez took a spin kick from Xia Li and she hit the mat hard. The match was called off and plenty of fans were worried. That worry didn’t diminish with reports that she was taken to the hospital.

It was later reported that Martinez was fine the next morning. She might be showing signs that she is fine, but that kick still did a number on her.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Mercedes suffered a concussion with that spin kick. That doesn’t mean she will be wrestling again any time soon, but concussions are unpredictable when it comes to healing.

“Mercedes is out of the hospital, and they did take her to the hospital and she did have a concussion. Look, when it comes to concussions–and we’re at day one. You know, a concussion could mean she’s fine to wrestle next week or she might not be ready to wrestle for another six months; because you never know. We don’t know the day after so she’s fine in the sense of she’s fine, but how quick she’s going to heal from it, because concussions are unpredictable.”

Xia Li did not do that on purpose at all and she was in a terrible situation after knocking out one of her real life friends on accident, but at least Martinez is out of the hospital. Hopefully, Mercedes Martinez will not be in a situation similar to Samoa Joe where an in-ring return is just out of reach pending passing the company’s strict impact testing that is required before a return to the ring.

What’s your take on this situation? Were you legit worried for Mercedes Martinez on NXT this week? Sound off in the comments!
