WWE will sometimes change up a Superstar’s name at Vince McMahon’s discretion. This can be confusing for some fans, especially if WWE starts calling someone by a totally different name than they are universally known by. The company nixed Matt Riddle’s first name, making him only Riddle. Now WWE might be backtracking on that a bit.

Michael Cole said “Matt Riddle” on SmackDown this week. A lot of fans perked up at that mention of Riddle’s first name on SmackDown. After all, WWE announcers generally say exactly what Vince McMahon wants them to say.

Matt Riddle will be in the Money in the Bank ladder match in July. His full name was spoken twice on SmackDown this week. That could be the beginning of getting Riddle’s first name back once again.

WWE reportedly changed up Riddle’s name when accusations came out about him during the #SpeakingOut movement. A lawsuit has since started due to those accusations. The report at the time said that WWE changed up Matt Riddle’s name because they didn’t want fans stumbling across reports about a sexual assault allegation when they were searching for him.

We will have to see if WWE continues to refer to Riddle by using his first name as well. He didn’t seem to mind the name change, but Matt Riddle is still his name.
