Tonight’s SmackDown is set to feature two big championship matches as Intercontinental Champion Apollo Crews defends against former champion Big E. The second championship match will see Universal Champion Roman Reigns defend against Daniel Bryan, with the added stipulation of Daniel Bryan being banished from SmackDown if Roman Reigns is victorious tonight.

It should be interesting in seeing how things play out on tonight’s show.

SmackDown

SmackDown begins with a video package promoting the Roman Reigns VS Daniel Bryan main event with Michael Cole calling it “possibly the biggest main event in SmackDown history”.

Live in the ThunderDome Michael Cole calls the environment a “big fight feel” and says it’s the first time the Universal Championship will be defended on SmackDown since December.

SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair makes her way out to the ring with a video package about her is played on screen. Belair grabs a mic and welcomes everyone to SmackDown before being interrupted by Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Ziggler says that Roode and him are the best at what they do before being interrupted by The Street Profits who take offense to Ziggler and Roode interrupting Belair, Bayley then proceeds to make her way out to the ring, where she steals the mic from Belair. Bayley starts laughing uncontrollably before being slapped across the face by Belair. A brawl breaks out between all six wrestlers as commentary acknowledges an upcoming tag match with all six wrestlers.

Bianca Belair & The Street Profits VS Bayley, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode

Bayley and Belair start off the match as we go back on air. Bayley avoids a slam from Belair and hits Belair with a lariat. Bayley dodges a dropkick attempt from Belair. Baley runs out of the corner where Belair is able to hit a dropkick. Ziggler and Dawkins are tagged in. Dawkins connects with a shoulder tackle and tags in Ford for the double team. Ziggler and Roode are hit with an outside dive from Ford. Bayley throws Belair into the stairs. In the ring Ziggler hits Ford with a super kick that causes Ford to roll outside. Ziggler gets Ford back in the ring and tags Roode in. A slam and cover from Roode leads to a two count. Bayley connects with a cheap shot on Ford as the referee is distracted. Roode tags in Ziggler and they hit a double vertical suplex on Ford. Ziggler applies a sleeper hold to Ford on the mat. Ford is able to break the hold but Ziggler hits a corner splash before Ford can make a tag. Ford hits Ziggler with a super kick out of nowhere. Dawkins and Roode are tagged in. Dawkins hits a corner splash and a running bulldog on Roode, Dawkins follows with a neck breaker and a cover that is broken up by Ziggler. Belair hits Bayley with the KOD in the ring. Roode rolls up Dawkins for a cover that Belair breaks up. Ford is tagged in and hits a frog splash for the cover and the three count.

Winners: Bianca Belair & The Street Profits

Daniel Bryan is interviewed backstage. He says he is at peace with the circumstances, and says that it is Reigns who should be nervous. Bryan says he is confident and that he will make Reigns tap out again. Bryan says that his first title defense will be against Cesaro.

Seth Rollins appears and says that his prediction is simple, and says that Daniel Bryan will win in a major upset. Rollins then challenges Cesaro for next week.

Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler are interviewed backstage and Jax says they’re tired of being disrespected before Natayla and Tamina attack them backstage.

Natalya & Tamina VS Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

Jax and Tamina start off the match with Tamina throwing Jax to the corner and attacking Baszler on the apron. Tamina attempts a top rope splash but Jax counters. Baszler is tagged in and throws punches to Tamina on the mat. Baszler hits a knee strike in the corner and tags Jax in. Tamina attempts a slam on Jax but falls over into a pin attempt that Tamina kicks out of. Baszler is tagged in and applies an armbar to Tamina, Tamina breaks the hold with a body slam. Natalya is tagged in and hits a spinning lariat and covers for a two count. Natalya hits a release German suplex for a two count. Baszler hits a knee strike as Jax tags in and hits an elbow drop and covers for a two count. Tamina is tagged in and climbs to the top but Reginald distracts her. Jax headbutts Tamina and Baszler is tagged in and goes up top to attempt a superplex, Tamina hits with a headbutt and follows with a splash for the cover and the three count

Booker T is shown on screen saying that he predicts Roman Reigns to win tonight

Back live with Shinsuke Nakamura predicting that Daniel Bryan will win.

Rey & Dominik Mysterio are interviewed backstage. Dominik says that he viewed Rey as a super hero and that wrestling with him feels like he’s in a comic book.

A video package about Aleister Black is shown. Black again reading from his Tales of the Dark Father book. He tells the story of a life based on a foundation of lies and that his father told him the dark truth and that he could save you, but he won’t.

Big E is interviewed backstage. He says that tonight he is going to get his baby back and guarantees that tonight he becomes the three time Intercontinental Champion.

Apollo Crews VS Big E

The match begins with a lock up. Crews brings Big E to the corner. Big E breaks out of a waist lock with a hip toss. Big E puts Crews into an abdominal stretch and hits Crews with an elbow and covers for a two count. Big E hits a splash over the apron to Crews and rolls back into the ring for a cover and a two count. Crews lifts Big E and drops him off the ropes and hits with a lariat. Crews hits Big E with a suplex on the outside of the ring.

Back live with Crews throwing punches to Big E on the mat. Big E Irish Whips Crews to the corner, Crews catches Big E with a slam and Crews knocks Big E to the outside and Crews hits a moonsault outside the ring. Big E plants Crews with a belly to belly and a splash and covers for a two count. Crews escapes The Big Ending attempt and hits a big boot and covers for a two count. Crews hits a corner splash and Big E catches Crews in mid air as Crews attempted a second corner splash. Crews hits a knee on the apron and lifts Big E and slams him to the apron. Crews hits a frog splash and covers for a two count. Big E rolls up Crews for a two count. Big E hits the Big Ending and Commander Azeez breaks up the cover for a disqualification.

Winner by Disqualification: Big E

After the bell Kevin Owens runs out to attack Commander Azeez. Azeez attempts a Nigerian Nail but Big E stops him. A brawl breaks out with the four before Sami Zayn runs in and hits the Helluva Kick. Zayn stares at the title belt for a moment before eventually handing it to Crews. Commander Azeez hits the Nigerian Nail on Zayn as Crews stands tall as Intercontinental Champion.

Back Live with Cesaro saying he accepts the challenge from Seth Rollins and that he predicts Daniel Bryan to win tonight and for himself to beat Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania Backlash.

A video package showing last week’s SmackDown and the events that lead to the Universal Championship match tonight is shown.

Paul Heyman is interviewed backstage. Heyman says that he is sick of hearing Daniel Bryan’s name. He says that Bryan has had a hall of fame career and has achieved everything and has overcome all odds against him. Heyman says that the fans are saying that this is Daniel Bryan’s night and that Daniel Bryan will not survive the Tribal Chief and Daniel Bryan will not be on SmackDown again.

Universal Championship

Roman Reigns VS Daniel Bryan

The Universal Championship main event begins with Bryan hitting a running drop kick and Reigns following up with an uppercut. Reigns bounces off the ropes and connects with a shoulder tackle. Bryan attempts to put Reigns in the Yes Lock as Reigns rolls out of the ring. Bryan hits a running knee off the apron to the outside.

Our main event continues with Bryan hitting knee strikes to Reigns on the mat. Bryan hits a series of kicks in the corner. Bryan hits a dropkick tot he corner and attempts another one before Reigns counters with a lariat. Reigns hits a snap suplex and covers for a two count. Reigns Irish Whips Bryan to the corner where Bryan flips off the top rope before being hit with an elbow from Reigns. Bryan hits a series of uppercuts before Reigns throws him to the corner. Reigns runs to the corner where Bryan throws him into the post. Bryan attempts a huricanrana off the top rope but Reigns counters with a power bomb and covers for a two count.

Back live with Reigns hitting a lariat to Bryan on the outside. Reigns Irish Whips Bryan into the barricade and rolls him into the ring for a two count. Reigns hits a series of knee strikes to Bryan down in the corner. Reigns attempts a superplex but Bryan slips through Reigns’ legs and trips him up. Bryan hits a top rope back suplex that leaves both wrestlers down on the mat. Eventually Bryan makes the cover where Reigns kicks out at two. Bryan hit the Yes Kicks to the legs but Reigns ducks the final kick and hits with a Samoan Drop and gets a two count. Reigns attempts the Superman Punch but Bryan counters with a kick. Bryan continues to work on the arm of Reigns. Bryan attempts a dive to the outside but is caught and slammed to the ground by Reigns. Reigns attempts a spear but Bryan moves out of the way, causing Reigns to crash through the barricade.

Back live with Bryan hitting a diving headbutt and the cover for a two count. Bryan runs out of the corner but is caught by a Superman Punch. Reigns attempts a spear but is countered with an inside cradle for a two count. Bryan hits the running knee and covers and Reigns forces a rope break at two. Bryan hits a series of stomps to reigns on the mat. Bryan puts Reigns in the Yes Lock but Reigns rolls into a cover that forces Bryan to break the hold. Reigns hits the spear and covers for a two count. Reigns attempts a guillotine submission hold but Bryan counters it into an armbar before Bryan eventually locks in the Yes Lock. Reigns tries to roll out of the hold but Bryan continues the Yes Lock. Reigns is able to pull Bryan’s arms apart to break the hold and Reigns immediately throws a series of punches to Bryan. Reigns power bombs Bryan to the mat and throws more punches and hits a second power bomb. Reigns eventually locks in the guillotine submission and as Bryan appears to be knocked out, the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Roman Reigns

After the match, Reigns stands tall with the Universal Championship belt in hand. After a replay of the finish, Reigns is seen on the outside with chairs in hand. Reigns brings the chairs in the ring and places Bryan’s head on the chair as Cesaro runs out and hits Reigns with an uppercut and continues the attack to Reigns on the outside. Cesaro is attacked by Jey Uso as Uso hits a super kick on the outside. Cesaro gets tied up in the ropes as Reigns hits Bryan with a con-chair-to and Reigns stared down Cesaro as SmackDown goes off the air.
