Turner won the rights for the NHL contract. That seven-year deal could also go to change AEW’s situation with TNT. This is still a very new situation and nothing has been 100% confirmed yet.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the current situation with the NHL moving to Turner Networks. TNT and TBS will host those games, but it’s unknown if it will cause a change for AEW Dynamite’s Wednesday night spot.

It was explained that AEW Dynamite would probably move to Fridays, if they have to, but that wouldn’t be ideal. They would be going against SmackDown on Fox which has a much larger reach.

“For TNT to move AEW and the problem is, and this is why it probably won’t be happening, is your choices would be Monday night and Friday night and it would probably be Friday Night because Tony Khan was very adamant about not running on Monday night because he doesn’t want to go against the NFL three months of the year, more than that actually. Friday would be going back to splitting the audience and you’re on a much weaker channel [than Fox].”

We will have to see how this plays out. The thinking right now is that AEW will not have to move Dynamite. It would be a lot of trouble, for sure. You also never know what can happen when you’re talking about high-dollar television deals.
