NXT was moved off of Wednesday nights after NBC Sports Network announced their closure. The thought was that the NHL’s Wednesday night double-header games would bump NXT. Now that is no longer an issue.

WWE President Nick Khan seemed confident that the NHL won’t be coming to USA Network. It turns out that is what happened.

The Sports Business Journal reports that next season will mark the first time that the NHL hasn’t been on NBC since the 2005-2006 season. NBC officially pulled out of bidding for the NHL’s television package.

It’s unclear where the NHL will go now, but USA Network’s Wednesday night time slot remains empty. That doesn’t mean NXT will jump right back over the re-spark the Wednesday Night Wars, but the option is certainty there.
