WWE brought NXT to the USA Network right after it was announced that AEW Dynamite was coming to TNT. Now some big news in the television world could force NXT from that Wednesday night slot.

NBC is set to shut down NBC Sports Network by the end of the year. They made this announcement today in a company memo. A lot of sports fans will now be tuning into USA Network for NHL and NASCAR.

The company memo detailed their plans to split up the NBC Sports Network’s programming lineup at the end of 2021.

At the conclusion of 2021, we have decided that the best strategic next step for our Sports Group and the entire Company is to wind down NBCSN completely, with key elements of NBCSN’s programming moving to USA Network and, in some cases, Peacock for 2022 and beyond.

This will make USA Network an extraordinarily powerful platform in the media marketplace, and gives our sports programming a significant audience boost. We believe that the power of this offering is the best long-term strategy for our Sports Group, our partners, and our Company.

NHL coverage is on every Wednesday, and that could bump NXT from their 8:00 PM EST weekly time slot. Nothing has been confirmed as to NXT’s future because this is very new information. If the NHL does move to Wednesdays on USA Network, obviously NXT will be affected.

Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
