WWE needs to get attention. Starting out their show a couple of weeks ago at the scene of chaotic accident was certainly a way to go about getting attention.

Elias is injured. He has a torn pectoral muscle for real. The entire hit and run spot with Jeff Hardy and Elias was designed to serve two purposes. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that the company needed to write Elias out of the storyline so getting hit by a car was the way they decided to go about thing.

It was also noted that due to SmackDown’s drooping ratings, they needed something unconventional to grab viewers’ attention. That car crash scene certainly seemed to do the trick.

The back story of why Elias was the one hit by the car supposedly driven by Sheamus and Jeff Hardy being framed was a combination attempt to boost ratings (which did work for one week all things considered but not the second week) and also as a cover because he really did tear his pec.

It was noted that torn pectoral injuries sometimes keep Superstars out of the ring for up to eight months. Michael Cole stated on Friday Night SmackDown that Elias should be out for “a couple of months.” That likely means that Elias’ injury isn’t a severe.
