WWE needed to slash the budget in a big way when COVID-19 took a chunk of their profits. The loss of live ticket sales was part of that and it took months to bring a crowd in to the Performance Center. WWE is still trying to save money whenever they can.

Fightful reports that WWE NXT Superstars and coaches who were in the crowd are not getting paid extra for their time. Those days consisted of standing for over 10 hours, but they’re not compensated financially.

For those asking, there’s no additional pay for these appearances for talent. Classes have continued for recruits, but usually digital tape study with coaches

There was some frustration from NXT Superstars following the Adam Cole and Velveteen Dream match that they taped for NXT TakeOver: In Your House. They had to wait for a very long time until the weather allowed them to shoot outside. This seems even more reasonable especially knowing that hey were not paid for their time.
