WWE re-signed Mike Kanellis to a five-year contract, but it didn’t take him very long to ask for his release from the company. At this point, WWE has not granted this release which seems to be their track record in situations like this.

Mike Kanellis recently spoke to the Smarks And Stars podcast where he addressed the reason why WWE hasn’t granted his release.

“As far as not giving me my release, I think it’s like anywhere. Like, the Patriots aren’t going to trade or release a player that they think the Jets are going to pick up. And I think we have to think of it like that. It’s not a negative, it’s just how it works. It works in sports, it works in wrestling.”

WWE did let Jordan Myles go, but that was a much different situation. Mike Kanellis is now doing motivational speaking gigs and he’s not even charging. We’ll have to see what’s next for Kanellis in WWE, but at least he’s finding a way to stay busy.
