Randy Orton signed a new five-year contract with WWE, but the company had a very interesting way of going about this process.

Fightful Select notes that Randy Orton’s WWE contract was held up for months. The talks for Orton’s new deal reportedly started back in the Spring, but the meetings kept getting pushed back.

They deal eventually did come together, but it was not the “high priority” that some within the company touted it as being.

Orton had his fun teasing AEW online and speaking openly in the locker room about being willing to hear what AEW had to offer. The idea backstage concerning WWE pushing Randy Orton’s contract meetings back was “if they’ll do that Randy, they’ll do it to anyone.”

This was a hot topic of conversation backstage for a bit, but everything obviously worked out in the end.
