AEW Dynamite aired a special episode with additional footage last night at 8:00 PM EST. This happened to be the same time that Friday Night SmackDown started on FS1.

Since they were moved off of FOX for the World Series, SmackDown might take a ratings hit on FS1. The added competition from AEW was not intentional as Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“It wasn’t last minute, because again, those five extra minutes were for that. Which was Adam Page and Kenny Omega coming out and the chair and the challenge angle and everything like that.”

“They did like an extended five minutes to show that, so that’s why they did that to do something like that. I don’t know when it was scheduled. I don’t think it was like ‘Oh, [SmackDown] is on cable we’re gonna go head-to-head. I don’t think there was so much the mentality except for it just worked out that way.”

It was noted that AEW isn’t going to “pick a fight you’re gonna lose” and “obviously” SmackDown has “far, far more viewers than they did.”

It was still rather interesting to keep both televisions on last night as SmackDown and Dynamite went head-to-head on a Friday Night, if only for this week.
