Lacey Evans and Charlotte Flair faced each other on RAW this week, but the match felt very different in regards to how they approached it. The first few minutes felt more like a shoot as they didn’t do much sports entertainment type wrestling and opted for headlocks, blocks, and reversals instead as Evans tried to take Flair down.

This didn’t really play off that well with the fans and it was also apparently awkward on television.

Dave Meltzer discussed this match on Wrestling Observer Radio where he pointed out one of the reasons why it seemed to be so off.

“Charlotte Flair and Lacey Evans I don’t know what went wrong there, but there’s gotta be a story cause they went out there and it was like somebody told them and I don’t know why, but somebody told them to go out there and make it look legit. So they went out there working like it’s a shoot, but neither of them had any experience working like a shoot so they’re just kinda like doing legitimate wrestling and even that part was weird cause you’re not used to it and it looked like Charlotte was blocking her moves and things like that which looked — it’s just not a WWE pattern match — in some ways it could have been good.”

“Then once they opened up, that thing everything was off. Everything was terrible.”

There might have been some miscommunication between the two, but they still carried on to the finish until it ended in DQ so neither woman lost much heat. It’s still interesting that WWE decided to have those two “shoot” at each other in such a way because it didn’t do anyone any favors except for Becky Lynch who stood at ringside and accepted cheers for her to be in the match instead.
