Ric Flair is promoted as a 17-time World Champion. The Nature Boy would argue that he’s actually held the big title over twenty times including different situations where he had to drop the title and win it right back or some other circumstance occurred. However, 17 is still the official number to beat.

Charlotte Flair’s SmackDown Women’s title reign at Money In The Bank might night have been long, but still counted as her 9th. That means she is inching closer to her father’s legendary record.

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE plans to get Charlotte Flair to her father’s 17 title win mark to break the record. It wouldn’t be a huge surprise if they made a super big deal about it as well.

If WWE is going to get Flair to this record there is still a long way to go. Ric Flair accomplished that achievement by working the territories and WWE is a much different ballgame, but if they want to get it done it is likely to happen. The big question is how will they be able to get Charlotte to that point and how soon do they want to do it.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
