Kevin Owens made his return before WrestleMania and found himself in a very bad spot upon his comeback. He was immediately placed in Kofi Kingston’s way and plenty of fans resented him just because of that. However, he was supposed to be a babyface.

Owens officially turned heel this week on SmackDown Live after a one-week run with the New Day as an honorary member. This was not WWE’s plan for the former Universal Champion at all.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE’s original plan for Owens was to present him as an everyday man kind of babyface. They wanted to make KO “a guy next door babyface, who ate junk food, had the same problems everyone else had, had kids, but could kick ass.”

The fact that WWE gave Owens the “ultimate modern WWE babyface” finisher like The Stunner was also a big sign of their babyface intentions for Kevin. However, his heel turn happened for a reason as well.

Daniel Bryan is currently out of action so they needed a top heel on the blue brand. Owens was being positioned as a top babyface behind only Roman Reigns and Kofi Kingston, however, WWE made the change to even out the rosters because they didn’t want to bring over another heel from RAW.

We will have to wait and see what WWE’s plan for Kevin Owens is as they continue, but it looks like the Prizefighter is set to take on Kofi Kingston at Money In The Bank.
