The Royal Rumble is fast approaching- and up until a week ago, so was Jerry “The King” Lawler’s WWE contract. Lawler signs yearly contracts with WWE on January 10- and after signing his latest contract that will last two years as opposed to one, Lawler found out some interesting news about the Royal Rumble match.

Lawler will commentate the men’s Royal Rumble match alongside Michael Cole and JBL. This is a reunion of sorts for the three- also meaning that Corey Graves, Tom Phillips, Renee Young and Byron Saxton will not be included.

During his postcast, Lawler had the following to say on the matter:

“My contract is up every year on January 10. On the 8th, I hadn’t heard a word. I sent a text to Kevin Dunn and said, ‘My contract is up the day after tomorrow. I just want to know where we stood.’ The very next day, I got a new contract in the mail. Not only one year, but a two-year deal. With a raise!”

“The Royal Rumble is coming up. They sent me a text message and I am going to be calling the men’s Royal Rumble. Me, Michael Cole and JBL.”

Given that the commentary teams will be shifting for the men’s Royal Rumble match, it is likely the women will have their own custom commentary team. Renee Young, of course, would be expected for this. Beth Phoenix is another name that could be thrown out there- depending on if “The Glamazon” is available and is not in the match itself.
