Brock Lesnar was set to face AJ Styles for the second year in a row in a champion vs champion match at Survivor Series. Last year, Lesnar defeated Styles but The Phenonomal One gained a ton of respect in the process. But it seems like Vince McMahon didn’t want to see this match again.
Dave Meltzer noted McMahon’s possible reasoning during Wrestling Observer Radio where he discussed the idea of Lesnar losing a high-profile match at this stage in the game

“I think it could be, and we’ll find out Sunday if Lesnar beats Bryan which you know I guess he’ll probably be favored to do. It means he would have probably beaten AJ and the whole deal was the Vince wasn’t going to beat Lesnar and [McMahon] kind of felt that he didn’t want Lesnar to Styles twice in a row so it’s better to beat Bryan.”
“Now if Bryan wins then that’s obviously thrown out the window. I wouldn’t expect Bryan to win but…”

Only time will tell how WWE will book Daniel Bryan vs Brock Lesnar as opposed to AJ Styles vs Brock Lesnar, but we’re about to find out on Sunday.
