WWE and the Saudi Arabian deal they currently have going on right now is a huge deal and it’s attracting some mainstream attention. This is why John Oliver focused on them a bit during Last Week Tonight on Sunday because the main subject was in fact, Saudi Arabia.
During the short mention of WWE, Oliver brought up the fact that WWE is in a 10-year deal and being used as a propaganda tool. It was pretty apparent at the time while watching The Greatest Royal Rumble and they played several parts of the show that support that point.
Yes, they said that WWE is as into Saudi Arabia as it is “latently homoerotic” which is just something you have to deal with whenever people try to make jokes about pro wrestling. In the punchline of the WWE section of his monologue, Oliver held up his hand and did the John Cena “you can’t see me” motion while saying WWE can’t see human rights abuses, that takes place around the 17-minute mark.
You can check out the clip below to check out what Oliver said. Of course, they used the wrong Royal Rumble graphic, but still, what he said could be a huge deal. After all, his HBO audience has been known to have a huge voice in matters like this so it might be only the start of this as WWE hopes things will be quieting down.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
