Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has taken to Twitter in order to not only post a throwback photo but also to hint at a possible comeback in the not so distant future.

Jones, 31, last fought professionally back at UFC 214 when he knocked out Daniel Cormier in order to reclaim his championship belt. Alas, the feeling of euphoria didn’t last for long as Jon tested positive for a banned substance and the result of the fight was changed to a no contest – with the title being awarded back to DC.

Since then there has been a parade of questions surrounding whether or not Jones will ever be able to fight inside the octagon again, with the main decision set to be determined by USADA sometime soon.

The former Nike-sponsored athlete was once considered to be the greatest of all-time in mixed martial arts, and despite his indiscretions, some people still hold him in that high regard.

His opponent from back at UFC 214, Daniel Cormier, has gone on to much bigger and better things, starting off at UFC 220 when he finished Volkan Oezdemir to retain the UFC light heavyweight championship. Then, just last month in Las Vegas, he knocked out Stipe Miocic to become the new UFC heavyweight champion – taking the accomplishment that many were expecting Jones himself to achieve.

Cormier is now set to face off against Brock Lesnar at some point before he retires next March, also known as the same man that Jones called out following his win at UFC 214. Whatever happens now, it’s safe to say that if Jones does return, a third fight with Cormier to complete the trilogy could be imminent.
