Daniel Bryan was set to face AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel — but Daniel didn’t want to go to the controversial country so they pulled the trigger on their match early. Instead, AJ Styles defended his WWE Championship against Daniel Bryan on SmackDown Live this week.
Bryan Alvarez was asked during Wrestling Observer Live if having Byran tap out clean in the middle of the ring might have been a punishment for the Bearded GOAT, but that doesn’t seem to be the case at all. In fact, the news might actually be worse for fans of the leader of the Yes Movement.

“I was told that the finish on SmackDown last night was the Crown Jewel finish. So it looks like no big plans for Daniel Bryan throughout the rest of the year. He had just won a tournament for a championship match at Crown Jewel and he didn’t want to go to Crown Jewel so they had their match on SmackDown and they had a finish and everyone else moves on.”

Daniel Bryan likely won’t get another shot at the WWE Championship for quite some time as Samoa Joe made his return to WWE television directly after their Championship match to insert himself into the title picture and get placed in Bryan’s previous WWE Crown Jewel spot.
Only time will tell what will go down at WWE Crown Jewel between AJ and Joe, but don’t expect for Daniel Bryan to get much of a championship focus on him for a while seeing how they moved on.
