AEW opened their doors to present a new kind of pro wrestling to a larger audience. The company also introduced several people to fans along the way who they might not have encountered. This was a very attractive aspect for Matt Sydal.

All Real Wrestling Podcast recently spoke to Matt Sydal about his decision to come to AEW. Sydal made his debut during All Out last year, and he is still making his mark in the company. He knew the EVPs of AEW from their days on the U.S. indie scene, and their work from around the world. He said that AEW is trying to bring a Pro Wrestling Guerrilla mentality to their show, and he’s all about it.

“The guys that came out of PWG eventually started the company AEW and I mean it just goes to show you it took a little long for somebody to capitalize on it. But I mean they’ve been putting their hearts into some really incredible work for some time and it’s just a matter of time before somebody wanted to utilize that and make it a giant international destination instead of just receive a little American Legion Hall.”

“I always feel like what AEW is going for is the PWG spirit, that mentality is sort of the heart is in the right place. I believe in what they do and there’s a lot of good wrestling and I love being in AEW. And there’s definitely benefits to being with these companies that are taking care of the wrestlers during this time.”

We’ll have to see what is next for Matt Sydal in AEW. He started things off with an attention-grabbing botch that concerned some people at All Out. Sydal was able to kick out of that situation and find his footing once again. Now he’s on a mission to continue with AEW, which is not a bad place to be in especially considering the current state of the world around him.
