Zoey Serrano has no problem throwing hands with the men in TNA, and she says some of the best matches of her entire wrestling career came when she was doing exactly that.
During her latest “Zoey’s 10001 Internet Questions” Q&A on YouTube, Serrano was asked how she feels about intergender wrestling. Turns out, she doesn’t just like it. That style of wrestling was a huge part of her career before WWE.
Serrano explained that she actually felt like she could take the gloves off a little more when she was wrestling men. When working with women, she sometimes worried about going too hard and accidentally hurting somebody. Against men, she didn’t have that same hesitation.
“I felt like I could just go harder with the guys. I was always a little scared of going, I don’t know, like I just didn’t want to hurt them. With the men, I didn’t have to worry about that. I could just go full throttle and not worry about it. But vice versa, they knew they could bring it back to me.”
Serrano wasn’t just doing intergender matches for the spectacle either. Looking back at her career, she believes some of her best work happened when she was standing across the ring from a male opponent.
“I’m not going to shy away from that. And I feel like a lot of like a lot of my best matches with with men.”
One match immediately came to mind. Serrano singled out her FSW bout against Matt Vandagriff, which took place before she moved to Orlando to continue the next chapter of her wrestling career. Years later, she still considers it one of her personal favorites.
“So, if you go back and watch Matt Vandergri versus me at FSW, it was like my sendoff match before I had to move to Orlando to start training over there. Hands down, one of my favorite matches. Love you, Matt Vander. You’re amazing. You deserve a shout out.”
Now Serrano finds herself in TNA, and that opens the door to something she clearly wouldn’t mind revisiting. Her TNA run has already given her a fresh environment after her time with WWE, but Serrano isn’t looking at the company’s men’s and women’s divisions as completely separate worlds. TNA has plenty of history when it comes to intergender wrestling, and she knows it. That’s exactly why Serrano didn’t hesitate when asked whether she would wrestle men again.
“I would do intergender wrestling today. I mean, I’m in TNA. They have a history of intergender wrestling, so why not? I could freaking put on some bangers with the men over at TNA. Are you kidding me? That would be a lot of fun.”
Serrano clearly isn’t talking about intergender wrestling like some one-night gimmick. She did it before WWE, remembers those matches as some of her best, and sounds ready to jump right back into it if TNA gives her the opportunity.
At this point, the bigger question might be whether TNA actually pulls the trigger. Serrano is already volunteering for the fight, and judging by the way she talks about her old intergender matches, she wouldn’t exactly be showing up to take it easy on anybody.
