Zayda Steel isn’t letting fans rewrite her career just because she lost to Mercedes Moné. When one fan claimed Steel was somehow getting more television time before joining AEW, she needed only six words to shut that one down.
Following the August 15 edition of AEW Collision, where Steel lost to Moné, one fan took to Twitter and used the match to question whether joining AEW was really the right move for her, claiming she had more TV time before joining the company.
“Zayda Steel was more on TV before joining AEW. I swear she could have been much better on WWE #AEWCollision”
There was one pretty big problem with that argument. According to Steel, she had never actually wrestled on television before AEW.
“never appeared on tv wrestling before AEW”
This comes after Steel had already explained the actual reason for leaving the WWE ID program. She said wrestling had stopped feeling like the escape she loved and started feeling like work, leaving her worried that she was losing both herself and her passion for the business.
“I love wrestling, and this is my escape from reality. And once I started to feel like my only escape was work, and I started to not like it and not have fun, I knew I needed to change.”
Whether leaving the WWE system ultimately proves to be the better long-term move is something nobody can know yet. But if the argument is that Zayda Steel used to wrestle on television more before AEW, she already has her answer ready: she didn’t.
